The Key to Getting (And Keeping) Your First Customers

November 21, 2020 By SPS Author Leave a Comment

New entrepreneurs often run into the same sorts of issues, including limited funding and coping with a fear of failure—but for women, the challenges can be even more daunting. Starting a business can be hard, but once you start getting money for your business, it gets a little bit easier. SavvyPro Solutions wants to see you succeed, so here are a few key things you need to know about getting loyal customers for your online business.

Identify Your Customers

This is the first thing a successful entrepreneur (young and old alike) needs to do: identify their target audience. Figure out who you’re selling to: what’s the age demographic? What is the typical gender? What are their needs and struggles? What’s their financial background? This helps you learn how to fine-tune your message and attract the right audience. Don’t try to sell to everyone; instead, focus on a small group and work from there.

Know What Problems Your Product Solves

After you’ve identified your market audience, think about what problems they may encounter and how your product can solve their problem. For example, if you are hoping to sell clothes online via dropshipping, identify what’s missing in the fashion market that you think your audience may need. They may be looking for trendy but affordable (and durable) pieces that help them stand out or swapping your inventory every season. By doing this, Entrepreneur points out that you set up a symbiotic relationship that builds a solid long-term customer.

Reach Out to Friends and Family Members

Word of mouth through social media is a great way to grow your business. Ask people in your network — including previous business colleagues and community members — for referrals and see who would benefit from your product. It’s intimidating to reach out to your friends and family in your efforts to find customers, but knowing how to ask for referrals can be a game-changer. Remember that your product is helping solve a problem, so always present it that way.

Give Customers a Great Experience

Providing great service is one of the most important things to focus on as you turn your idea into a profit. Give your customers good service: give them deals on certain items, have efficient shipping, ask for feedback, and design products that make them more likely to come back. Be responsive and have a feedback option on your website.

In order for this to work, you must also make sure your supply chain is logical and efficient. Research what technology, processes and strategies are time-tested by others in your industry for best results. Products and supplies that are hung up in your system mean you keep customers waiting, so aim for optimization from the get-go.

Do a Referral or Reward Program

As you’re working on finding more customers, give your current customers an incentive to help you. Give them credits that can help them get discounts on products. Another option is to reward both parties by giving each party discounts. For example, they can refer a friend and get 20 percent off, and that referred friend will also get 20 percent off. This is especially useful through email marketing, where your customers can sign up for a subscription and get notifications about the latest deals as they become available.

Don’t ignore the many grants and loans available these days, too. From emergency grants to forgivable loans, there are a plethora of options available that are worth exploring, and it just makes sense to put them to work for you.

If you need more funding, do some crowdfunding and ask your happiest customers to invest. Depending on how much they invest, they can get different kinds of rewards, such as shopping for clothes at wholesale prices year-round for all four seasons.

More and more young, female entrepreneurs have been starting businesses in recent years. There’s a lot of pride that comes from working for yourself and growing a business. Identify your target audience, work with your local network, and reward your customers. It can help you grow a successful business and have loyal and happy customers.
